Review: Annually or whenever the Pq methodology is updated

Purpose

This document explains the Pedalling Quality (Pq) metric used by the Pedlpro application. It is intended to help users correctly interpret Pq values and understand their role in improving pedalling technique.

What is Pedalling Quality (Pq)?

Pedalling Quality (Pq) is a proprietary performance indicator developed by Pedlpro. It evaluates the quality and consistency of a cyclist's pedalling technique. Unlike power or heart rate metrics, Pq focuses on technical execution rather than physical output.

What Does Pq Mean?

Pq is designed to compare a rider's own performance over time. A higher PQ value generally indicates smoother, more consistent and more efficient pedalling technique. It should be interpreted together with training context and long-term trends.

How Should Pq Be Used?

  • Track your own technical development over weeks and months.

  • Compare sessions performed under similar conditions.

  • Use Pq together with the Coach recommendations and trend analysis.

  • Focus on continuous improvement rather than isolated scores.

Important Information

Pq is not a medical measurement, diagnostic indicator or clinical assessment. It is not intended for comparing different cyclists directly, as riding conditions, equipment and individual characteristics may differ.

Review: Annually or whenever the Coach methodology is updated

Purpose

This document explains how the Coach feature works within Pedlpro and how its recommendations should be interpreted.

The Role of Coach

The Coach analyzes your riding data and provides personalized technical recommendations to help improve your pedalling technique over time. Its objective is to support continuous technical development rather than maximize short-term performance.

How Coach Generates Recommendations

The Coach combines compatible Garmin metrics, long-term performance trends and Pedlpro's proprietary rule-based analysis. Recommendations are generated automatically based on the available data from your activities.

How to Use the Recommendations

Coach suggestions are most effective when followed consistently over multiple training sessions. Progress should be evaluated using long-term trends and Pedalling Quality (Pq) rather than individual rides.

Important Information

  • Coach does not replace a qualified cycling coach or medical professional.

  • It does not guarantee a specific increase in performance or fitness.

  • Recommendations should always be considered together with your training goals and personal condition.

Review: Annually or whenever result interpretation methodology is updated

Purpose

This document explains how to interpret the results provided by Pedlpro and how to use them to monitor long-term improvements in pedalling technique.

Focus on Progress

The most meaningful comparison is against your own previous results. The primary objective is continuous technical improvement rather than achieving a specific score.

Understanding Trends

Individual rides may vary due to fatigue, training intensity or other factors. Long-term trends provide a more reliable indication of improvements in pedalling technique than isolated sessions.

Interpret Results in Context

Always evaluate Pedlpro results together with the purpose of the training session. Recovery rides, endurance sessions and high-intensity workouts may naturally produce different technical outcomes.

Using Your Results

Use Pedalling Quality (PQ), Coach recommendations and historical trends together to identify strengths, weaknesses and opportunities for gradual improvement.

Important Information

  • Avoid drawing conclusions from a single activity.

  • Consistent measurement conditions improve the reliability of trend analysis.

  • Long-term improvement is more important than day-to-day variation.

Review: Annually or whenever the measurement methodology is updated

Purpose

This document explains why Pedlpro has been designed primarily for indoor cycling and how the acquired technique can be applied during outdoor riding.

Why Indoor Cycling?

Indoor riding provides stable and repeatable measurement conditions. By eliminating external influences such as traffic, weather, road surface and terrain, Pedlpro can evaluate pedalling technique more consistently and accurately.

Outdoor Influences

When riding outdoors, factors such as climbs, descents, corners, wind, road conditions and traffic continuously affect pedalling technique. These variables make direct comparison between rides significantly more difficult.

Applying Indoor Improvements Outdoors

The technical skills developed during structured indoor training naturally transfer to outdoor cycling. Improved pedalling technique can contribute to smoother, more efficient riding under real-world conditions, even though outdoor measurements are inherently more variable.

Best Practice

For the most reliable trend analysis, perform regular technique sessions under similar indoor conditions and use outdoor rides to apply and reinforce the acquired skills.

Important Information

  • Indoor measurements provide the highest level of repeatability.

  • Outdoor riding remains valuable for applying improved technique in real cycling conditions.

  • Changes in outdoor measurements do not necessarily indicate changes in technical ability.
